Vitamin D Testing

In early January 2009, there was national news about inaccurate results for Vitamin D Testing from Quest Diagnostics. SSMC does use Quest for its Vitamin D testing but we have been informed by Quest Diagnostics the testing and results performed on SSMC patients for Vitamin D is accurate and correct.

People produce vitamin D, an essential nutrient needed for healthy bones, when they’re exposed to sunlight. They also consume it in foods and from nutritional supplements. The amount of vitamin D testing performed by Quest and other laboratories has grown in recent years as studies suggested inadequate levels may boost the risk of heart attacks, bone weakness, and other conditions.
