Marijuana and Controlled Substance Agreement
The new Massachusetts law concerning recreational marijuana is now in effect. Currently SSMC policy does not allow the use of any alcohol or THC product in combination with prescribed controlled substances. Due to the unpredictable risks of such combinations, SSMC will not be changing our policy concerning alcohol or THC use for patients prescribed controlled substances despite the passage of new law.

Department of Transportation Exams

South Shore Medical Center becomes an AADE-accredited diabetes education program
South Shore Medical Center was recently named an accredited diabetes education program by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. This will allow patients at South Shore Medical Center increased access to critical diabetes education services.
Diabetes education as a collaborative process through which people with or at risk for diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions. It is provided at South Shore Medical Center by Kerry Ovalle our Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Read more.

Baby Sitter Training & Home Alone Postponed
In September 2013, the South Shore Medical Center’s Norwell and Weymouth offices will begin their move to our brand new location at 143 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA.
To allow us time needed to settle into our new medical home, we will be postponing Baby Sitter Training & Home Alone classes until January 2014.
Check back with us after January 1st for dates and times to resume these classes.
Midwife Program Provides Seamless Care from Practice to Hospital
South Shore Medical Center is one of the first practices to participate in South Shore Hospital’s new hospital-based midwife program. The midwives will also see patients at the Women’s Center of South Shore Medical Center.
HPHC Honor Roll with Distinction
December 3, 2012
South Shore Medical Center has been named to the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Honor Roll with Distinction for 2012 for our exemplary performance on quality measures. Harvard Pilgrim reviewed performance in three domains of clinical care affecting both adult and pediatric patient: acute, chronic and preventive care. Physician groups were identified as Honor Roll practices based on paoitns earned for performance on 16 measures such as appropriate treatment for children with upper respiratory infection, comprehensive diabetes and breast cancer screenings.

New England Compounding Center (NECC) Recall

In reference to New England Compounding Center (NECC), SSMC has at no time utilized this pharmacy to compound any steroid injectable products. Patients can be reassured that the steroids we use are not from this pharmacy and come directly from the manufacturer.
South Shore Medical Center now offers Saturday baseline concussion testing once per month.
As summer winds down it’s time to prepare for flu season. Every year in the United States, on average 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu. This website has a special section on flu prevention and treatment. South Shore Medical Center also offers adult and pediatric flu vaccine clinics throughout the fall.

Replacement of CT Scanner

The new CT Scanner in our Weymouth Woods location is up and running. The 64 slice scanner is providing beautiful images with an approximate reduction in radiation dose of 30% to our patients (depending on the patient and the study being performed).

Friday, December 31, 2010 Service Delays
We apologize for any delay in service that you may have experienced on Friday, December 31st. This day was an observed holiday for SSMC which means only the Norwell offices were open with reduced staffing. We realize this caused a delay for some of our patients and we are sorry.
