HealthOne Care System Changes Name to Atrius Health
Emphasizes Proactive, Patient-Centered Care Model

Newton, MA (March 20, 2007) –HealthOne Care System today unveils a new name — Atrius Health — to underscore its commitment to patient-centered health care. HealthOne was created in 2004 to collaborate on developing a high quality integrated ambulatory health care system for eastern Massachusetts. The alliance includes five non-profit community-based physician groups: Dedham Medical Associates, Granite Medical, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Southboro Medical Group, and South Shore Medical Center.

While each of the Atrius Health groups continues to serve its own patients, they work together to bring a broader range of integrated services to their communities. By the end of 2007, all groups will share one electronic medical record system, increasing the ease with which nearly 600,000 patients will be able to access the wide range of specialists and diagnostic services in Atrius Health. The Atrius Health groups will also collaborate on adding new ambulatory health care services in the future, including the Commonwealth Atrius Cancer Center slated to open in Weymouth this May.

Atrius Health includes over 700 physicians and 1,000 other medical professionals providing care from 28 locations in eastern Massachusetts. All practices work together to meet aggressive performance goals on issues ranging from diabetes treatment and cancer screening to decreasing wait time for patients and improving physician communication skills.

“Selecting the name ‘Atrius Health’ is a major step forward for our collaboration and builds on our strength of providing high quality preventive care,” said Debra A. Geihsler, CEO. “Atrius recognizes our passion for creating a better way to deliver healthcare. As it connotes, we want Atrius Health to provide that special space defined by the relationship between the patients—at the center—and their physician and medical team, and we will set the pace for the way in which health care is delivered.”

The word Atrius is derived from combining “atrium” and “radius.” Atrium is an open central court or dedicated special space, and also a chamber of the heart. Radius defines a circle or sphere, or is a measure of range, activity or influence. The new name will go into effect on May 1.
